SOHO IN OTTAKRING
What's up? Was ist hier los?“

Ula Schneider und Beatrix Zobl (Hrsg.):
„SOHO IN OTTAKRING. What’s up? Was ist hier los?!
Springer-Verlag Wien/New York. 2008 | 152 Pages, German and English.

SOHO IN OTTAKRING summarizes the first ten years of the art project bearing the same name and offers richly illustrated vistas of the large variety of projects. The location, the Brunnenviertel neighborhood in Ottakring, Vienna’s 16th district, is an exemplary area in terms of global social transformations resulting from migration and economization. The publication’s guiding themes are the possibilities and consequences of art within the variable field of differing interests in urban areas. SOHO IN OTTAKRING has become an internationally acclaimed project over the last years. The festival is open, subtle and represents an attitude towards art that is in permanent confrontation with the dominant public space players. This form of "public artistic work" opens new fields for art, but also still harbors the possibility of failure. Well-known authors discuss the development of the area, the art project and comparable international efforts in their contributions
